01

Register with Campus France

All Indian students applying to French universities must first register and complete the Campus France process — including an interview at the Campus France office in Chennai, Mumbai, or New Delhi. PupilAbroad prepares you for the Campus France interview.

02

Receive University Acceptance Letter

After completing Campus France formalities, your chosen university issues an acceptance letter (lettre d'admission). This is required for your French student visa application.

03

Apply for French Long-Stay Student Visa (VLS-TS)

Apply for a Visa de Long Séjour valant Titre de Séjour (VLS-TS) at the French Consulate in Pondicherry (for South India applicants) or Mumbai. Submit acceptance letter, financial proof, Campus France number, and insurance.

04

Validate Visa Online (OFII)

Within 3 months of arrival in France, validate your VLS-TS online with the French Immigration Office (OFII). Pay the €200 tax stamp. This activates your residence permit — no separate residence card needed for VLS-TS.

05

Receive APS Work Permit After Graduation

Non-EU students graduating from French Master's programs receive an APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour) — a 1-year (extendable to 2 years) open work permit to find employment in France or start a business.

Not always. France has hundreds of fully English-taught Masters programs — especially in business schools (Grandes Écoles) and select university Masters. However, for public university programs and maximum employability in France, French language at B2 level is strongly recommended. PupilAbroad identifies the best English-medium programs in France for your profile.
Campus France is the French government agency responsible for promoting French higher education internationally and managing international student applications. All Indian students applying to study in France MUST register with Campus France and complete an interview in India. PupilAbroad prepares you thoroughly for the Campus France interview — a common reason for visa delays if not handled correctly.
Extremely affordable. French public universities charge a national contribution of €170 for undergraduate programs and €380 for Masters programs per year — making them among the cheapest in the developed world. The CVEC student contribution (€103/year) and health insurance are also minimal. However, living costs in Paris are high — approximately €1,200–1,800/month.
France has a large and diverse economy with strong sectors in aerospace (Airbus, Safran), luxury (LVMH, Kering, Hermès), technology (Capgemini, Atos, Dassault), pharmaceuticals (Sanofi, L'Oréal), and energy (Total Energies, EDF). The APS post-study work permit gives non-EU graduates 2 years to find employment. France also has a vibrant startup ecosystem in Paris (Station F is the world's largest startup campus).
For English-taught programs at Grandes Écoles: IELTS 6.5–7.5 or TOEFL iBT 90–110. For INSEAD MBA: TOEFL 110 or IELTS 7.5. For French-taught public university programs: DELF/DALF B2–C1 or TCF B2. PupilAbroad identifies the most suitable programs based on your English and French proficiency levels.
The APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour) is a 1-year work permit (extendable to 2 years) granted to non-EU graduates of French higher education programs at Masters level or above. It is an open permit — allowing you to work for any employer in any role in France while seeking permanent employment. It can lead to a Talent Passport work visa for long-term stay.
Yes. Your spouse or partner may apply for a long-stay visa to join you in France if you are studying for more than one year. They can apply for work authorization after arrival. Dependent children can attend French public schools free of charge. PupilAbroad advises on the family visa application process for studying in France.
